Man, 36, killed in Miami Shores wrong-way crash caused by DUI driver
MIAMI SHORES, FL – A 41-year-old man was said to have been impaired when he caused a wrong-way collision, leading a 36-year-old man to die from his injuries Sunday.
Miami-Dade Police told Local 10 that sometime after 3 a.m. the intoxicated driver, Carlos Humberto Fabian (born in Guatemala), had allegedly driven north on southbound Miami Avenue when he first crashed into a Hyundai car and then a motorcycle, resulting in Fabian’s Volkswagen Jetta to catch on fire.
First responders declared the 36-year-old man, a motorcyclist, dead at the scene, identifying him as Bobby Jenkins. An ambulance then rushed his passenger, Lindsey Laquerre, to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where she would receive medical treatment for her broken bones and a head concussion.
The woman with Fabian, identified as Kelly Gonzalez, was the person who initially told police that Fabian, her date, was supposedly “drinking on and off again” within an 11-hour span on Sunday.
Fabian consented to a Blood Alcohol Content test at exactly 5:50 a.m., then at 9:40 a.m., and then at 10:40 a.m. Results showed he was over the legal limit. As such, officers arrested him, and he will face the following charges: “driving under the influence, DUI causing serious bodily injury, and two counts of DUI damage to property or person.”
