Man, 62, critically hurt in fiery semi wreck caused by sedan driver
JACKSONVILLE, FL – A semi-truck driver, a 62-year-old man, was left in critical condition after he was hit by a sedan driver, leading him to crash into a tree and the semi to catch fire.
This collision occurred on I-95 South Thursday morning. First Coast News said the events unfolded when the sedan driver, a 32-year-old man, struck the semi-truck (which was on an outside lane), resulting in the 62-year-old man drifting off I-95 and crashing.
Following this initial crash, the 32-year-old man collided with another big rig on the inside lane.
The second truck driver sustained minor wounds, and the 32-year-old man was transported to a hospital for serious injuries.
Officials closed I-95 South after Race Track Road to help clear the scene and launch the investigation. Travelers could still get past the collision by taking the left lane but were advised to proceed with caution.
All lanes have reopened since. Distracted driving, impairment, speed, tiredness, or other actions have not been listed as contributing factors in Thursday’s wreck.
