Man, 64, killed as semi submerges into Tampa Bypass Canal
TAMPA, FL – A 64-year-old man driving a semi-truck died after he lost control of the truck on I-75 and hit a concrete wall before crashing into the Tampa Bypass Canal Monday.
Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded to the scene after 2:30 a.m., according to Click Orlando. Florida Highway Patrol said the impact of the crash caused the cab to separate and go into the canal, taking the driver with it. As such, divers affiliated with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office had to recover the driver from the water 40 feet below the surface.
Troopers do not publicly announce the names of people who passed away in collisions but did confirm the man was from Mississippi.
At this time, it is unclear if heavy rains played a role in this crash.
