Man causes Fort Myers fiery pickup truck crash; punches truck owner
FORT MYERS, FL – A Dodge pickup truck caught on fire after it was crashed by a man who also punched the truck’s owner, leading the owner to suffer a face injury Sunday.
This incident, which was initially reported as a hit-and-run but then a single-vehicle accident, happened before 10:45 p.m. at the McGregor Boulevard and Rails End Court junction, NBC-2 reported. While the exact cause of the fire was not revealed, the impact did leave damage to a palm tree. Debris from the crash was also scattered across the pavement.
The events of this crash unfolded when the Dodge owner got into an argument with one of the passengers. The men pulled over and got out of the truck. One of them struck the Dodge driver, punched him, and snatched his gold chain before getting into the truck and crashing it.
The suspect, who was confirmed to be intoxicated, has been identified as Pablo De Dios.
It is unclear if the owner of the truck was taken to a hospital, but De Dios and another man from the truck were taken to a local hospital.
De Dios has been charged with “robbery by sudden snatching and grand theft of a motor vehicle.”
