Man fatally struck by hit-and-run driver on I-295 in Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE, FL – A 42-year-old man lost his life after he was hit by a woman who also hit a parked pickup truck on the I-295 shoulder and tried to flee the scene Monday.
According to First Coast News, a pickup truck occupant was aiding a person with a flat tractor-trailer tire parked on the shoulder. Authorities did not confirm if the 42-year-old man and 48-year-old man attending to the flat tire were the drivers. As the men worked on changing a tire, that’s when they were hit by a 24-year-old woman driving a car.
The female driver immediately tried to flee the scene on foot but was caught by police. The 42-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the woman, along with the 48-year-old man, sustained minor wounds. It is unclear if they were taken to a hospital.
Florida Highway Patrol did not confirm if the female driver will be charged for fleeing the scene of a crash that resulted in death.
