Miami-Dade officer hurt after driver runs red light in Hialeah
HIALEAH, FL – A driver ran a red light and then collided with a vehicle driven by a Miami-Dade Schools police officer Thursday.
The collision happened at the intersection of West Okeechobee Road and West 18th Avenue, Local 10 reported. An eyewitness who drove behind the officer said the driver of a white Dodge Challenger drove through the red light while the officer proceeded to a green light. As a result, both drivers collided.
The Challenger sustained major front-end damage, while the driver, whose name was not released, did not sustain injuries and was taken home by family members.
The police officer was airlifted to a hospital, where he is in stable condition.
Police did not indicate pending charges for the Challenger driver.
