MMA Fighter Killed In Hit And Run Accident In Delray Beach
A 25-year-old North Dakota man who moved to Florida to pursue his dreams of becoming a professional mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter was recently killed in a hit and run accident while standing on the corner of Federal Highway and Lindell Boulevard. Reports claim a silver sport model Range Rover ran over the victim who was wearing headphones at the intersection.
Reports state physicians tried desperately to save the victim, amputating one of his legs. The victim spent several days in a coma, teammates by his side, before succumbing to his injuries. His friends and fellow athletes remember him as a hard worker, training to reach his goal of becoming a world class fighter.
As a law firm that frequently represents the victims and families of those hurt in auto accidents, the Pendas Law Firm understands the impact these types of events have on victims and their loved ones. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim’s surviving family members.
Police Search for Driver Who Hit Victim
Left behind at the scene of the accident were several pieces of debris from the vehicle after it hit the victim, including the driver’s side mirror, pieces of the headlight, and parts of the bumper. The vehicle had an aftermarket paint job, which may help investigators key in on who the suspected hit and run driver may be.
Police credit the quick reaction of a fellow officer who was the first to arrive on the scene of the accident and attempted to save the victim’s life. The first responder immediately took action by retrieving a blanket from his cruiser to apply pressure to the victim’s leg wounds to stop the bleeding.
The move saved the victim from bleeding to death and gave him a chance to survive the ordeal. Sadly, the victim passed away after being in a coma for two days.
West Palm Beach Wrongful Death Car Accident Lawsuits
Although the investigation into the young man’s death is still ongoing and authorities continue to search for the driver, speculation continues to swirl as to whether or not the driver was at-fault in the accident as he or she did not stop to help the victim. In situations where drivers cause severe injury, disability, or fatality in an accident, victims may be able to hold these wrongdoers accountable for their actions by filing wrongful death lawsuits.
Surviving family members may be able to recover for their loved one’s lost income, services they would have provided, pain and suffering and other damages. Unfortunately, at-fault drivers and their insurance companies rarely accept responsibility for their careless action and may need to be compelled to do so with legal action.
