Motorcyclist killed in wrong-way crash on I-10 West in Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE, FL – A 25-year-old woman drove east on I-10 West, causing a three-vehicle collision that claimed the life of a 26-year-old man riding a motorcycle Saturday.
News 4 Jax said the collision happened before 4:30 p.m.
Florida Highway Patrol said that prior to the crash, the motorcycle was traveling in the center lane (westbound) while another vehicle was driving in the outside lane (also westbound). When the motorcyclist and third driver negotiated a curve, that’s when the wrong-way driver changed lanes from the inside lane and into the center, causing her to collide with the motorcyclist.
The third vehicle sustained some damage on its left side, and the motorcyclist, who, despite wearing a helmet, succumbed to fatal wounds at the scene.
The driver of the third vehicle – a 24-year-old adult — and the passenger with them — a 26-year-old adult — were unharmed.
Troopers revealed the wrong-way driver was also unharmed but have not indicated why she drove the wrong way, nor have they confirmed pending charges.
