Off-duty paramedic loses life in Hillsborough Co. crash
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL – A 50-year-old man, who was identified as an off-duty paramedic, died after trying to pass another car on State Road 50 and hit a tree Tuesday.
WTSP said this collision happened on the eastbound lanes west of Olympia Road. Florida Highway Patrol said the paramedic tried to pass the car by taking the grassy median. In his attempt, he lost control of his vehicle, leading him to collide with a fence and a tree.
FHP said the man, who did not wear a seatbelt, succumbed to fatal wounds at the scene.
Hillsborough County Fire Rescue later identified the Hillsborough Co. paramedic as Steven Haberland, from Dade City.
