Officer hurt, 1 killed in Miami Beach pursuit-crash
MIAMI BEACH, FL – Robbery suspects were driving away from police when they crashed into a police car, resulting in sustained injuries for an officer and claiming one life.
This incident happened Tuesday, and the pursuit started to unfold along Northwest 103rd Street, NBC Miami reported. Along the way, one of the robbery suspects got out of the vehicle and ran away on foot.
The male suspect had hit a woman (who was later hospitalized for minor injuries) who did not have a relation to the robbery and tried to hide in a neighborhood before surrendering. Meanwhile, the pursuit continued, and the suspect drove without his headlights in the wrong direction.
An officer driving in a marked patrol car saw that the suspect’s vehicle was coming and tried to stop the car without colliding. However, the suspect’s vehicle struck the police cruiser, leading the officer to suffer minor injuries. The officer was sent to an area hospital for treatment.
One of the robbery suspects — the driver, 28-year-old Kadrian Devante Spencer — was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Trauma Center, where he later died.
The other suspects — 22-year-old Christopher Barry, 19-year-old Ronald Spencer, and Javarie Johnson — were booked into custody. They appeared to have been unharmed.
