Officials release details linked to fatal fiery semi crash on I-95
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – Officials have released more information regarding the fatal fiery rollover semi-truck collision that happened on I-95 North Friday.
This collision was reported before 6:30 a.m. According to the Miami Herald, the events of the crash unfolded when a 39-year-old woman operating a 2021 Nissan Altima crashed her vehicle into the back of the semi-truck.
The semi-truck driver, an unidentified man, lost control of his tractor-trailer and struck a concrete barrier, leading it to roll over and crash into a construction zone and catch fire.
The tractor-trailer motorist was pronounced dead at the scene, while another occupant was sent to Broward Health Medical Center.
It is unclear what initially led the 39-year-old woman, a Pompano Beach resident, to lose control of her car in the first place before hitting the truck.
In addition, officials did not specify if the woman was the second occupant who was sent to the hospital or if it was, indeed, another passenger who was hospitalized.
Following the collision, authorities shut down the northbound directions, starting from exit 25 (at Griffin Road) to exit 23.
An investigation has been launched. No additional details, including the truck driver’s identity, were disclosed.
