Passenger dead, others left injured after multi-vehicle wreck at Naples intersection
NAPLES, FL – A 30-year-old man lost his life Monday afternoon after a driver fled police and became involved in a multi-vehicle collision in Naples that left several others injured, according to Naples Daily.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the fatal wreck occurred in the area of Logan Boulevard and Vanderbilt Beach Road.
A preliminary investigation shows that a 22-year-old Miami man was driving a 2024 Kia sedan on Interstate 75 when they sped away from the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.
Not long after traveling down Logan Boulevard at a high rate of speed, the Kia ran past a traffic signal at the above intersection and collided with four other vehicles.
Officials said one passenger, a 30-year-old man, in the fleeing Kia suffered critical injuries. Another 30-year-old man was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
All drivers of the other four involved vehicles sustained injuries deemed minor. They were described as Naples women aged 18, 42, 46, and 73.
The driver of the causing Kia, who was booked into Collier County Jail after being released from the hospital, faces multiple charges: vehicular homicde, fleeing and eluding police – causing death, and driving without a license – causing death.
