Passenger killed, 3 others injured in suspected DUI crash near Davenport
POLK COUNTY, FL – A 39-year-old woman from Jacksonville died following a single-vehicle wreck last Friday, July 19, near Davenport that injured three others, including her two children, reports News4Jax.
The fatal accident took place on North Ridge Trail, prompting a response from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and first responders shortly after 7:54 p.m.
Officials said a 36-year-old Orlando woman was driving a driving a 2024 Nissan sedan at a high rate of speed when the car veered off the roadway as it came upon a 90-degree corner. The vehicle went over a guardrail and slammed through a fence before colliding with a tree.
The Jacksonville woman, who was a passenger, ejected from the vehicle. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Two other passengers, a 15-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy who were identified as the decedent’s children, were rushed to a local hospital. As of Saturday morning, both patients were listed in stable condition.
First responders also transported the driver, who was suspected of impairment at the scene, to a hospital to be treated for fractures to her face. The sheriff’s office indicated that she is expected to be criminally charged pending a toxicology report.
