Tragic accidents continue to mount in Pompano Beach
This tragedy is just the latest in a series of accidents in 2016 in and around Pompano Beach, Florida. In late January 2016, two separate accidents took the lives of two victims in the city, one involving a motorcycle and the other involving a bicyclist.
- On January 20, 2016, a 27-year-old man was killed on his motorcycle after striking a tanker on Northwest 15th Avenue. The motorcyclist was thrown from his vehicle in the crash and pronounced dead at the scene.
- On January 19, 2016 a cyclist was killed early in the morning on 600 block of East Copans Road. The 35-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene after being struck by a 2000 Lincoln Continental near the center lane of the road.
Another pair of serious accidents took place in late 2015. In December 2015, a 39-year-old female driver was injured in a hit and run accident on Northwest 31st Avenue. On December 1, 2015, two people were hospitalized in a rollover accident on Third Street.
Who pays for injuries in a car accident in Florida?
The state of Florida has no-fault insurance laws, meaning the victim’s own auto insurance covers the costs of reimbursing victims for property damage, hospital expenses, and pain and suffering. Auto accident victims may not sue the other driver unless they suffered a permanent disability or visible scarring.
Typically, auto accident victims may recover compensation for their:
- Lost wages;
- Property damage;
- Physical pain and suffering;
- Emotional anguish;
- Hospital bills; and
- Medical expenses.
Recovering compensation for damages in auto accidents is often easier said than done. Wrongdoers often attempt to skirt responsibility for their careless driving and auto insurance companies are well known for trying to pay less than fair compensation. After accidents, victims should be focused on healing, not dealing with insurance adjusters.
