Rear-end wreck in Orlando claims life of teenage girl
ORLANDO, FL – A 2024 Honda Civic crashed into the back of a 2017 Dodge Caravan, driven by a 17-year-old girl, leading to the girl’s death and causing a crash with another car Monday.
After the Dodge driver rear-ended the teenager on SR 408 East (near Dean Road), the Dodge car rotated and then struck three people standing outside a 2016 Toyota Corolla, according to Click Orlando.
Florida Highway Patrol responded to the scene after 3 a.m. and said the Toyota was stationary on the right shoulder. While troopers do not publicly announce the names of people involved in crashes (if the crash investigation falls under their jurisdiction), they confirmed that the three people standing outside were a 27-year-old man from North Bay Village, a 26-year-old Coral Springs man, and a 27-year-old man from Orlando.
Troopers said the Orlando man sustained minor wounds but did not confirm if he was taken to a hospital, while the two other men were hospitalized for critical, life-threatening wounds.
FHP started an investigation and didn’t have many details at this time, but they were able to confirm that the teenage girl did not wear a seatbelt.
Officials shut down the area for several hours and finally lifted all lane closures around 9 a.m.
