Road ranger fatally hit during multi-vehicle wreck on I-95 in Hollywood
HOLLYWOOD, FL – Authorities responded to a chain-reaction collision New Year’s Day in Hollywood that claimed the life of a 28-year-old road ranger, according to Local 10.
The fatal incident occurred on the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 at Hollywood Boulevard, at about 3:37 a.m.
Florida Highway Patrol officials said two fully marked FHP patrol cars were among the five vehicles involved in the crash. Preliminary details show a 45-year-old Miami woman was driving a 2012 white BMW X6 when the car hit the back of a 2006 Honda Accord. Shortly after, the BMW entered the express lane, where it hit a concrete wall and then struck the service truck driven by the road ranger.
The crash set off a series of chain-reaction crashes involving two FHP Dodge Charger patrol vehicles. Officials said the ranger was standing in an area between the two patrol cars when he was fatally struck.
Three other people, including two FHP troopers from Davie and the driver of the Honda, a 28-year-old Hollywood man, suffered injuries deemed non-incapacitating.
An investigation remains underway.
