Scooter vs. car crash in Cape Coral claims life of teen boy
CAPE CORAL, FL – A 13-year-old boy was riding an electric scooter at W. Retunda Parkway and Academy Blvd. when he was fatally hit by a Hyundai Sonata Saturday.
NBC-2 said after 2 p.m., the teen came to the intersection despite the “Cross Traffic Does Not Stop” signs. When the front of the Hyundai Sonata struck the boy, the force of the collision dragged him 50 feet, and he rolled under. He was also thrown 75 feet into a yard.
The teenager did not wear a helmet and was rushed to a hospital, where he later succumbed to fatal injuries.
Cape Coral Police have identified the boy. However, our newsroom does not list the names of juveniles involved in motor vehicle and personal injury-related matters. With that said, our news team has declined to mention the teenager’s name in this article.
