Sentencing hearing set for suspect in DUI death of university student in Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE, FL – The sentencing hearing has been set for Michael Motley, a 61-year-old man who pleaded guilty to a DUI incident resulting in the death of a University of North Florida student in 2021.
According to WXJT, Motley’s blood alcohol level was over twice the legal limit when he collided with the vehicle of 22-year-old Megan Mooney on Philips Highway in July 2021. Motley was not arrested until nearly a year after the deadly crash, following a delay in DUI investigations.
The sentencing, originally scheduled for May, was postponed to July 14th in order to allow time for victim impact statements and accommodate Mooney’s loved ones attending the hearing.
