Speeding driver causes injury crash with semis in Lakeland 

LAKELAND, FL – A Toyota Camry driver was going 130 mph on I-4 trying to flee from police and eventually hit two parked semi-trailers, injuring himself and four others. 

This multi-vehicle collision happened after midnight Friday, WFLA reported. When a trooper saw that the car driver was going more than 100mph, they tried to stop the driver, but he refused and drove away going 130ph. He eventually went into a closed construction zone where he struck the trucks, leading himself and his passenger to get thrown from their car. 

The Toyota Camry occupants were seriously injured, and the tractor-trailer drivers sustained minor wounds. In addition, another vehicle, a Subaru Outback, was said to have been involved. Florida Highway Patrol did not specify if the Toyota driver struck the Subaru or if the truck drivers did, but they did say the driver from this vehicle also sustained minor lacerations. 

Troopers said the two Toyota passengers were men. FHP doesn’t release the names of those involved in car accidents but did say they were a 30-year-old man from Port Charlotte and a 37-year-old man from Tampa. While troopers disclosed the men’s ages and places of residence, they did not specify which man drove the car. 

Officials also said they found several pounds of marijuana in the Camry and $5,000. 

FHP started an investigation and has not released other details at this time.
