SUV driver fatally strikes cyclist in Lely
LELY, FL – A 26-year-old man suffered fatal wounds when he was struck by an SUV on the right lane of U.S. 41 along Lely Resort Boulevard Wednesday.
Florida Highway Patrol told NBC-2 that the cyclist was going eastbound on a westbound bicycle lane when he was hit by the SUV driver’s front bumper while turning right on U.S. 41.
Troopers confirmed the male cyclist perished at the scene, while the SUV driver and their occupants were unharmed.
FHP and crews closed two lanes but have reopened the area since.
At this time, troopers have not revealed whether the SUV driver will face citations or criminal charges for their involvement in this deadly crash.
