Tampa hit-and-run kills man in wheelchair, ends in doctor’s arrest
TAMPA, FL – The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested a local doctor who was responsible for hitting a man in a wheelchair, who later died, with his car last month and fleeing the scene.
WTSP said HSCO arrested the doctor, identified as 62-year-old Dr. Gwyn N. Crump, on Wednesday, and he has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash.
The hit-and-run happened on Saturday, Oct. 12, on East 124th Ave, west of the Regency Oaks Mobile Home Park. Several eyewitnesses saw what happened and were able to provide a description of the vehicle, which led to deputies finding Crump. When deputies arrived at his home, Crump admitted to driving the vehicle on the night of the wreck.
The man in the wheelchair has since been identified as Richard Taylor.
HCSO launched an investigation and classified it as ongoing.
