Teen, 17, killed in no-pass zone crash in Spring Hill
SPRING HILL, FL – A Honda Civic driver went into the opposite lane to pass another driver in a no-pass zone, which ended in a rollover collision that killed a 17-year-old boy Thursday.
Florida Highway Patrol told WFLA that the events unfolded when the 17-year-old boy, driving a car, was traveling north on Highway 41 when he drifted into the shoulder to avoid the oncoming Honda Civic. The teenage boy crashed into a concrete culvert, resulting in his car overturning.
The boy, from Tampa, was ejected and succumbed to fatal wounds at the scene, while his passenger, a 16-year-old girl, was left in serious condition.
FHP did not say if the Honda Civic driver, a 45-year-old man, a Spring Hill local, was cited or expected to be met with criminal charges.
