Teen charged following fatal Palm Bay pedestrian crash, father also arrested
BREVARD COUNTY, FL – Authorities have arrested a 17-year-old and his 37-year-old father following a hit-and-run pedestrian crash in Palm Bay that killed a 23-year-old man, reports ClickOrlando.
Palm Bay police said the fatal incident took place at the corner of Capeador Street Northwest and Nadell Street Northwest at about 8:35 p.m.
Investigators were initially led to believe that the teen’s 37-year-old father was behind the wheel of a vehicle that fatally struck the victim, but were later determined that the teen had been driver and sole occupant of the striking car.
Authorities said the teen had fled the scene following the pedestrian crash, and that his father had returned to the area in the same vehicle under the pretense that he had been the one driving.
Enough evidence was ultimately gathered to the contrary, and the teen, who is believed to have been driving at about 94 mph, was taken into custody and charged with “leaving the scene of an accident with death and vehicle manslaughter.” His father, who was also arrested, is alleged to have given “false information at a crash.”
