Teen dies after school bus-bike crash near Lake Minneola High School
MINNEOLA, FL – A 17-year-old boy was riding his bicycle along Lake Minneola High School when he was hit by a school bus around 7 a.m. Monday, resulting in his death.
WESH News Channel 2 said the bus driver was traveling south on Hancock Road, and the teenager was cycling on northbound Hancock on a bicycle trail. The driver — a 78-year-old woman — made a turn and struck the teenager. The driver attempted to swerve. However, the attempt did not work, and she crashed into a fence and a stop sign on the shoulder.
First responders rushed the juvenile to a hospital, where he later died. The driver has all the qualifications necessary to operate a school bus, and officials indicated no signs of impairment, speed, or distracted driving at this time.
An official investigation was started, but no other details regarding this collision have been revealed.
