The preliminary investigation by authorities revealed that the victim, who remains unidentified, was likely walking or standing in the outside lane of southbound US 17 when he was struck in the early morning crash that occurred around 4 am on a weekday morning. Unspecified evidence found at the scene of the collision indicates that the vehicle involved, which did not stop, may be a commercial vehicle. Authorities are hoping to hear from the public with any tips about the commercial vehicle, the accident itself, or the driver they’d like to identify who has been described as a Hispanic male of approximately 60 years of age.
