Tips To Help You Avoid Vehicle Accidents

Driver

In this article, we share some tips to help you avoid vehicle accidents during spring.

Tip #1: Keep an Eye Out for Potholes

The winter season can cause a lot of potholes on the road. During winter, potholes originate from the freezing and thawing of roads. Usually, the areas that see a good amount of snow are hit the hardest with potholes. Potholes can be quite dangerous. Not only can potholes damage your vehicle, but they can also cause you to veer off course into other vehicles, nearby pedestrians, and objects. It is crucial that you keep an eye out for potholes and try to avoid them whenever possible. If you must drive over a pothole, ensure you slow down and only release the brake after you pass over it. This will help minimize impact.

Tip #2: Beware of Sun Glare

The sun can be particularly bright in the spring. If you are not careful, a beautiful spring drive can quickly take a turn for the worse because of the sun. Sun glare is to blame for quite a number of vehicle accidents. Ensure you wear sunglasses to avoid being blinded by the sun.

Tip #3: Avoid Puddles

There are bound to be puddles on the road during spring. It is best that you avoid puddles whenever you can, as puddles can put you at risk of hydroplaning. Hydroplaning can reduce your ability to steer and brake. Puddles can also hide hazards underneath, such as potholes. If you must drive through a puddle, slow down and leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front.

Tip #4: Ensure Your Vehicle Is in Excellent Condition

First, check your wiper blades and replace them if needed. Spring is known for rainy weather, so you want to ensure your vehicle is prepared to handle the rain. Also, check your tires. Often, cold winter temperatures result in tires losing pressure. Reinflate your tires if needed to ensure you get the best traction possible on wet roads. Additionally, make sure to always have a spare tire with you.

Tip #5: Beware of Construction Zones

After winter, construction crews will be out in large numbers trying to fix winter wear and tear, which means more obstacles and hazards on the road, including lane closures, construction workers, and detours. Slow down when approaching construction zones and pay attention to road signs and flagger instructions. Also, make sure you leave enough room between you and the vehicle in front so you can have enough time to react in case something unexpected happens.

Tip #6: Beware of Animals

Animals usually become more active during spring and summer. Be sure to watch out for wildlife, and slow down to a speed where you can react safely if needed.
