Two seriously hurt in I-295 head-on crash in Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE, FL – Two people were seriously injured after a wrong-way and head-on crash on Saturday.
According to News 4 Jax, the collision occurred on I-295 near Monument Road. For reasons unknown, a 48-year-old man was traveling in the wrong direction on I-295 North and crashed his truck head-on with a car.
The impact caused the truck to catch fire. The 48-year-old man was seriously hurt, and the 21-year-old woman was critically injured.
Officials have not confirmed if impairment could have been a factor in the collision. However, they did say the drivers wore seatbelts.
The northbound and southbound lanes of I-295 closed for several hours and have reopened since.
