Update: Police arrest 2nd suspect for deadly Dale Mabry Hwy wreck
TAMPA, FL – As of Monday, Tampa Police confirmed they arrested a second suspect, a 19-year-old man, for his involvement in a fatal collision on Dale Mabry Highway last Monday.
New details from ABC Action News indicated that the crash happened before 10:30 a.m. The second suspect, identified as Daniel Hernandez, was racing alongside 22-year-old Andy Moya Robainia.
Hernadez drove a black Camaro while Robainia was operating a 2011 BMW. As the young men continued speeding and racing, Robainia then struck a Nissan Versa.
Officers arrested Robainia, and he was charged with a “felony count of vehicular homicide and one misdemeanor count of unlawful racing on a highway.”
Hernandez initially fled the scene, but officers later located him. He has been charged with “vehicular homicide (leaving the scene), unlawful racing on a highway, reckless driving with serious bodily injury, and leaving the scene of a crash with death.”
Hernandez’s vehicle was apprehended, and he was booked into Orient Road Jail.
The Nissan occupants were not identified by name but by age. The Nissan passenger, identified as a white woman in her early 60s, and the driver, a white man in his early 70s, were taken to a local hospital. There, the woman passed away, and the man was set to receive medical treatment for his wounds.
