West Palm Beach Lawyers File Suit Against Bill Cosby, Hugh Hefner
A woman claiming to be a victim of sexual assault at the hands of Bill Cosby recently filed a sexual battery lawsuit against actor Bill Cosby with the aid of her West Palm Beach lawyers. The suit, filed in California, also names Playboy founder Hugh Hefner as a co-conspirator in the suit, claiming he was complicit in the attack and helped facilitate many others throughout the years.
The plaintiff’s lawyers contend the victim was in her teens when the assault occurred but could not specify an exact date and did not report the crime to authorities. The victim is also compelling authorities in California to criminally charge Cosby with crimes related to the event since they fall within the state’s eight year statute of limitations on crimes of this nature.
The complaint demands a trial by jury and lists several accusations against the defendants. Claims against Bill Cosby and Hugh Hefner in the civil lawsuit include:
- Sexual battery;
- Gender violence;
- Intentional infliction of emotional distress;
- Negligent infliction of emotional distress; and
- Conspiracy to commit sexual battery.
Cosby Drugged, Took Advantage of Woman
According to the sexual assault lawsuit, the victim went to Hefner’s Playboy Mansion sometime in 2008 with a friend who was invited. After allegedly being introduced to Hefner, he then in turn introduced the victim to Cosby.
During the evening, Cosby is accused of providing the woman with a drink that caused her to feel nauseous. Hefner allegedly noticed and suggested the victim retire to a bedroom to lie down and recover.
Cosby allegedly escorted the victim to a bedroom where the plaintiff subsequently lost consciousness. Upon regaining consciousness, she contends she found Cosby disrobed performing lewd acts upon her. The plaintiff claims Hefner acted negligently by inviting Cosby and providing a private room because he knew or should have known Cosby would commit such acts.
As a proximate and direct cause of the counts in the lawsuit, the plaintiffs maintains she was forced to seek and will continue to seek treatment from healthcare professionals to help her deal with the trauma of the alleged event. Furthermore, the plaintiff claims the supposed attack severely impacted her career and employment opportunities as well as causing damage to her reputation. The suit did not list a specific amount of compensation sought but does ask for damages for actual losses, punitive damages, and any interest that may accrue.
