Woman sentenced months after Jacksonville hit-and-run that claimed man’s life
JACKSONVILLE, FL – A local woman has been sentenced nine months after a hit-and-run collision in Jacksonville that claimed the life of a 42-year-old man, reports First Coast News.
According to officials, the woman is expected to spend 20 years in prison for causing and fleeing a crash on February 26.
Investigators determined that at about 11:40 a.m., the victim was on the side of an Interstate 10 ramp near I-295, working on a tire of a parked commercial motor vehicle, when he was hit by the suspect’s vehicle.
Following the crash, Florida Highway Patrol troopers were told that the woman, who was injured in the incident, fled the scene on foot. A Facebook message she sent to the owner of the striking vehicle confirmed that she was its driver.
While the woman initially told officers that she was not the driver, she later said she “take[s] full responsibility.”
At the time of First Coast News’ report on November 22, 2024, the woman was said to have gotten credit for “270 days of time served.”
